Your tour is led by John "JB" Belanger, a U.S. military veteran with an S.O.C. background and more than 30 years of experience navigating backcountry terrain across North America, behind the wheel and on foot.
JB has an extensive military background and served as an Infantry Squad Leader and Unit Leader/Instructor, to include tours with the 22nd and 26th Marine Expeditionary Units, and the 158th SFS.
He is a veteran of Operation Sharp Edge, Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom. JB has trained and worked with NATO forces around the globe. In the private sector he was a Staff Instructor and mentor at a drug treatment campus, and later worked as a Drill Instructor, training thousands of recruits before retiring from NYSDOCCS.
He is a nationally published outdoor writer, with a cover story in Overland Adventures Magazine, numerous articles in View On Magazine, and two features with UNPLUG Magazine. John also operates The Rugged Outdoorsmen with his son, Mike, where they are hired to ‘Field Test’ outdoor equipment for national brands across the country.
The Mojave Desert and the canyon country around Mesquite is terrain he knows well: the history, the hidden corners and the details most visitors never get to see. What you get isn't a rehearsed script. It's real knowledge, genuine passion and the kind of storytelling that only comes from decades of exploring.
About 3 hours. We pick you up at one of our partner locations in Mesquite, take you up onto the mesa for local history and the Joshua tree forest, and bring you back at sunset before dropping you off.
$129 per guest. Veterans save 10%. Please bring a military or VA ID, or a DD-214, to pickup.
This is a true off-road experience. Guests must be able to get in and out of a large expedition vehicle without help and walk safely on uneven desert ground at three viewpoint stops.
For safety, liability and pricing reasons, we can't accommodate pregnant guests, children under 6 or pets of any kind.
We provide drinking water. Bring a camera or phone, and wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops).
Outside food and drinks aren't allowed on the vehicle. If you have a medical need, tell your guide before the tour.
Yes. Every guest signs our participant waiver at pickup, and a parent or guardian signs for anyone under 18. You can read the waiver here before you book.
